Glenn Thrasher is a Wellington based geologist who makes furniture and wooden kitchenware from a small workshop in Brooklyn. He uses only “cast off” recycled material in his woodwork, including discarded Rimu, Tawa, Matai, Oak (old wine barrels are a favourite) and Redwood.
Glenn also makes limited edition woodblock and linocut prints. A woodblock print is made by carving an image in reverse onto a block of wood. Ink is then rolled onto the block and paper or fabric pressed on top. It’s a time-consuming process, especially if you want to add more than one colour during the printing process. A linocut print is a variation on a woodblock print, using lino instead of wood.
