Close of Day oil on board by Alec MacDonald
59.5cm x 89cm, framed
Alec MacDonald has drawn and painted most of his life. In the UK, he was surrounded by family and friends, amongst whom were a number of artists, so was encouraged and allowed to teach himself. He ended his peripatetic life in the UK by migrating to work in NZ in 1979 and fell in love with the land and waterscapes around him. For the last 30 or so years he has worked in a superrealist style on landscapes for their tranquility and loneliness. He is equally drawn to the dissonance and suspense of understated surrealism and finds much inspiration in both dreams and his sense of the ridiculous. He has lived in Plimmerton for the last 30 years.
