Cloud Path by Kelly Rowe
Oil on canvas
32cm x 32cm, framed
I paint abstracted, imagined landscapes and floral scapes which aim to immerse the viewer in the memory and feeling of the viewpoint. They are meditative spaces to escape and dream, they are about land, water, the atmosphere, the weather, mists, showers, imagined colour, opening blooms but always with light illuminating the scene.
There are strong influences from the effects of the elemental nature of the wild, rugged NZ coasts, plains and mountain regions, and then there are times where the calming horizon lines exert their importance upon my psyche. There are periods of restraint where simplicity serves a purpose with a nod to concepts of saying more with less, but the rhythms of the land, sea and horizon, time after time pull me back to a place where I am most at ease.
With over 15 years working in Interior design, commercial interiors and architecture and Director at Maken Interior Design studio, I have a strong sense of concept, colour and composition and I like to experiment with bringing this architectural and graphic nature to my contemporary art pieces.
